10 deadly pesticides found in farmers' blood, causing cancer.

Farmers are suffering from deadly diseases due to pesticides

Shocking information has emerged from research conducted by the National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR) and Osmania University. The research revealed that traces of 10 deadly pesticides were found in the blood of farmers in Telangana. These pesticides are causing cancer and other fatal diseases among them.

The highest level of DDT (metabolites) was found. The farmers had low levels of metabolites/enzymes, which are necessary for metabolic processes. The study was conducted between 2021-23 in 5 villages each from the districts of Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, Vikarabad, and Sangareddy. Blood and urine samples of about 500 farmers were tested in the study.

Farmers are suffering from muscle weakness, Alzheimer’s, and cancer. The report stated that farmers use 28 different pesticides, either through spraying or other forms. Among these, 11 pesticides are listed as carcinogenic chemicals by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.

A recent study identified 10 highly hazardous pesticides found in farmers' blood, linked to cancer. These include:

1. Glyphosate (associated with lymphoma and colon cancer)

2. Atrazine (linked to colon cancer)

3. Boscalid (linked to leukemia)

4. Dimethomorph (linked to leukemia and colon cancer)

5. Dicamba (linked to colon and pancreatic cancer)

6. Dimethenamid (linked to bladder cancer)

7. Dinotefuran (linked to leukemia)

8. Imazethapyr (linked to lung cancer)

9. Metolachlor (linked to colon cancer)

10. Chlorpyrifos (linked to reproductive toxicity).

11. DDT (linked to motabolic enzyms and other toxicity)

Safety measures not followed while using pesticides

According to researchers, farmers do not follow safety measures while using pesticides. As a result, pesticides easily enter their bodies. Farmers do not wear gloves, masks, or other safety gear while working. The report also stated that genetic storage and immune control increase the health risks. It highlighted the potential outcomes of European Union and American agricultural experiments, which have limited pesticide use to physical and health lifestyle measures.
