International Year of Millets (IYM) 2023

The International Year of Millets (IYM) 2023 was declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at India's initiative. The aim was to raise awareness about the importance of millets in sustainable agriculture, food security, and nutrition. Millets are resilient crops that can grow in adverse climatic conditions and are rich in nutrients, making them important for addressing malnutrition and promoting climate-resilient farming.

Millets like sorghum, pearl millet, and finger millet are known for their health benefits, being high in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, and for their ability to thrive in drought-prone areas. The International Year of Millets sought to encourage production and consumption of these ancient grains globally, contributing to sustainable food systems.
